The Bachelor of Science in Business Administration major in Human Resource Development Management is a four-year college course that incorporates employment issues with business management. The program provides students with knowledge and abilities in workforce organization, job analysis, manpower recruitment and compensation, personnel training, legal provisions and other labor concerns. 

In comparison with BS in Business Administration which deals with the fundamental concepts of operating and managing a business, BSBA in Human Resource Development Management focuses on people-oriented subjects associated with organizational workforce. The scope will cover such topics as principles and theories of employment, personnel training and skills development and other systems or procedures in handling and managing people. 

The curriculum of BSBA in Human Resource Development Management includes CHED-mandated general subjects, with an emphasis on Administrative and Office Management; Labor Law and Legislation; Recruitment and Selection; Training and Development; Compensation Administration; Labor Relations and Negotiations; Strategic Human Resource Management; and Organizational Development. 

Is Human Resource Development a profession?
Human Resource Development Management is not considered as a profession and it does not require licensing. Although practice in this field does not require unique knowledge, graduates of BSBA in Human Resource Management are qualified for various careers in the field of Recruitment and Human resources. 

What are the admission requirements for BSBA-HRDM?
Requirements at each school may differ, but these are the common requirements:
  • Must be a high school graduate. Those who did not complete high school education may opt to first attend Alternative Learning System (ALS) and pass the Philippine Educational Placement Test (PEPT) to qualify for college. However, some universities only offer selected courses for PEPT passers admission.
  • Must pass the college entrance examination
  • Must pass the interview conducted by the college / university admission officer
  • Medical laboratory results and health certificate
  • Good Moral certificate from the previous school (sometimes from enrollees Barangay)
  • Some schools require particular rating in the National Secondary Assessment Test (NSAT)

What skills will help you succeed in this course?
There are no specific skills required for BSBA-HRDM students. However, possession of certain attitudes and qualities are of great advantage in this course.
  • Communication skills – the ability to write and converse in English and in vernacular is helpful, especially in classroom discussions and reporting
  • Interpersonal skills – will help you in studying together with classmates, doing group assignments and forming connections with friends and colleges.
  • Organization and time management skills


How difficult is this course?
For the majority of BSBA in Human Resource Development Management students, this course is quite easy and engaging. The subjects are not very difficult although they require some memorization. While this course is business-based, it is also generally people-oriented so it is easier to understand and apply in actual life situations. It is motivating as well to know the various employment and labor concerns that can personally help fresh graduates on their own career venture. 

How long does it take to complete BSBA in Human Resource Development Management in the Philippines?
Normally, the BSBA-HRDM program takes 4 years to complete. Some schools use the trimester system and complete the program in a shorter time. 

On the Job training / Internship
On the last year of the BSBA in Human Resource Development Management program, students will participate in a practicum course in preparation for their future career. The Practicum is a hands-on, experiential 6 units, 300-hour course whereby the students undergo On-The-Job training in an agency that will expose them to tasks, work situations and environment to develop the necessary competencies and skills. 

Is there a board examination for BSBA-HRDM?
There is no board examination for BSBA in Human Resource Development Management. 
However, if you want to work in the government sector, you have to pass the Civil Service Examination.

  • Entry Level jobsJobs requiring no prior to minimal level of experience:
    • Recruitment Trainee – supports recruitment consultants by sourcing new candidates for job vacancies.
    • Assistant Training and Development Officer – helps the Training Manager with the ongoing training activities for improvement of employees' skills, enabling them to fulfill their potential within their organization.
    • Human Resource staff – office personnel at the HR Department of a Company or a Recruitment agency doing clerical work such as documentations and records filing
    • Employment Engagement Coordinator – supports the Employee Engagement Manager, Generalist and functions with overall responsibility for associate satisfaction and retention; HR policies, processes, and program administration; and the development and delivery of retention initiatives to enhance the overall work experience for all associates and improve morale, satisfaction, productivity and retention.
  • Mid-Level Positions
  • Require trainings and prior job experience of a few years:
    • Recruitment Officer – screens and interview job candidates, do background checks and match them to the job requirements of their client company.
    • Training and Development Manager – handles the learning and professional development of an organization's workforce to equip staff with the knowledge, practical skills and motivation to carry out work-related tasks.
    • Compensation and Benefits Planning Officer – conducts salary analysis and recommendations related to employee hiring or related employee movements which involve salary changes to ensure competitiveness and internal equitability of the Company, Administers employee benefits, assistance to employees in relation to timekeeping
    • Human Resource Analyst – responsible for the company's HR database management including the timely generation of reports and employee contact information. Periodically audits the database to ensure accuracy
    • Careers Information Officers – identify, analyze and assess the suitability and value of information relevant to a careers service or careers information unit.
    • Career Adviser In Higher Education – employed by universities and institution to provide information, advice and guidance to undergraduates, graduates and postgraduates assess their values, interests, abilities and skills and relate these to opportunities for employment, further study and training.
  • Advanced Positions
  • Require years of extensive experience and practice:
    • Recruitment Manager – responsible for attracting candidates and matching them to temporary or permanent positions with client companies, building relationships in order to gain a better understanding of their recruitment needs and requirements.
    • Human Resource Managers – lead and manage the human resources organization and ensure that it develops proactive human resources, strategies and initiatives, to achieve a harmonious working environment, industrial peace and strong alliance with the government and the community.
    • Senior Sourcing Specialist – responsible for all activities associated with generating applications from specific sourcing channels such as target universities, events, internet, alumni, employee referral, in house search, proactive sourcing based on the Recruitment targets and budget and marketing strategy.
    • HR System Policy & Planning Administrator – executes company department strategies and operational plans, reviews periodic performance reports and conducts performance appraisal reviews.
    • Management Consultants – help organizations in solving financial issues, create value, maximize growth and improve the business performance of their clients by providing objective advice on financial and management controls, human resources, business strategy and marketing
    • Academician – faculty members, instructors, and professors in an institution that provides Human Resources management education lectures in a college or university.
  • Jobs not related to Human Resource Management that graduates can apply to
    • Call center agent – answers phone calls and inquiries of clients and provides customer support, usually to people from other countries
    • Administrative Staff – personnel responsible for the organization and management of office duties and tasks; positions that include office secretary, personal assistant and office clerk
    • Freelancer working online – doing online jobs for clients abroad, such as data entry, article writing, SEO, customer support, administrative support etc., which mainly depends on your skills
  • Career Opportunities Abroad
  • There are quite a few job opportunities abroad for Filipinos in Human Resources-related jobs.
    The main countries where jobs for Filipinos are available are Saudi Arabia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates and Singapore.
 
  • Salary Levels
  • For fresh Human Resource graduates in the Philippines, the salary range for entry level jobs such HR Assistant is generally php10,000 to php12,000 monthly. Positions for more experienced candidates offer between php12,000-20,000 per month. Top supervisory positions such as HR Managers have a monthly salary range of about php30,000 to php45,000.
    Salaries for those who work abroad are generally much higher.
