The BSBA in Marketing Management program is designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills for effective marketing and sales strategies: how a company determines what product or service to sell, how customers and markets are delineated into target demographics, and the methods of reaching them. The course also focuses on strategic marketing issues which marketing managers assess before findings are presented to their executives. By learning to be an effective marketer and manager, you will learn to respond to the demands of competitors, the government, and larger social issues. Among the concepts and theories that will be discussed are sales management, brand, distribution, e-commerce, franchising, retailing, information technology and corporate social responsibility. 

The program will provides you with opportunities to go beyond the classroom. Feasibility studies will require field work and interviews with customers in projected target markets. 

As a versatile major, the course seeks to produce graduates who are able to work in the fields of marketing, advertising and research. 

Subjects and Curriculum
The subjects in the BSBA in Marketing Management curriculum are divided into five main categories:
  • General Education core: Language and Humanities Cluster, Mathematics, Computer and Natural Science Cluster, Social Sciences Cluster, Mandated Subjects
  • Basic Business Core: Principles of Management, Human Behavior in Organization (HBO), Principles of Marketing, Accounting 1, Business Communication, Basic Finance, Computer
  • Business Education Core: Basic Microeconomics, Accounting II, Business Law (Obligation and Contract), Taxation (Income Taxation), Total Quality Management, Human Resource Management, Social Responsibility and Good Governance
  • Professional Courses in Marketing: Professional Salesmanship, Marketing Research, Marketing Management, Distribution Management, Advertising, Product Management, Retail Management, Strategic Marketing Management
  • Elective Courses: Consumer Behavior, Sales Management, International Marketing, Franchising, E-Commerce and Internet Marketing, Entrepreneurial Management, Direct Marketing, Services Marketing, Industrial/Agricultural Marketing, Cooperative Marketing, New Market Development, Strategic Marketing Management, Environmental Marketing, Special Topics in Marketing Management

The BSBA in Marketing Management program is taught to students through classroom lectures, case studies and business presentations. They are also required to attend seminars and educational talks from time to time.

Students of the BSBA in Marketing Management program need to complete a Feasibility study and successfully finish the required number of hours intended for the On the Job Training (OJT).

BSBA in Marketing Management vs BSBA in Marketing
BSBA in Marketing Management and BSBA in Marketing are exactly the same course. Officially, CHED uses the name BSBA in Marketing Management. However, it allows schools to modify course names thus there are some schools that use the name BSBA in Marketing.

Is Marketing a profession?
Marketing is on the crossroads between being a profession and being an art. Marketing does require some skills and techniques that can be learned, while many other traits such as people skills, appearance, ability to gain people's trust, perseverance, are more character traits and natural abilities than something you learn. You do not need a license or specific education to work in marketing, and your natural abilities and experience will play a critical part in your success. 

What are the admission requirements for BSBA in Marketing Management in the Philippines?
There are no specific requirements for this course. As long as you are a high school graduate, submit the necessary credentials/documents and are able to pass the college entrance examination and interview, you will be eligible for admission and enrolment in the BSBA in Marketing Management program. 
Students who were not able to complete secondary level of education have the chance to be admitted if they pass the Philippine Educational Placement Test (PEPT). 

What skills are required to succeed in this course?
  • Interpersonal skills – you must be able to grasp the needs and demands of the various demographics in society in order to determine what appeals to them.
  • Communication skills – marketing is about getting your message across to your market in ways that appeal to them.
  • Creative skills – the ability to “think out of the box” to find creative solutions for unique marketing problems.
  • Analytical skills – to create detailed feasibility studies you must be able to take entire marketing sectors and analyze them one by one.

How difficult is this course?
BSBA in Marketing Management is not too difficult as a course, yet it requires an intuition for the demographics of society, the desire to understand the varying demands of consumers and the ability to forecast market trends and movements. 

How long does it take to complete BSBA in Marketing Management in the Philippines?
The BSBA in Marketing Management program takes 4 years to complete. Universities which go by the Trimester school calendar require less time to finish the course.

This course requires 138 credit hours which are equivalent to 8 semesters.

On The Job Training / Internship
As mandated by CHED (the official governing body of higher education institutions in the Philippines), on the job training is a requirement for any BSBA program. The total number of hours set for internships according to CHED is 300 hours. 

During the On-The-Job training program, you will be assigned to work at a company’s marketing department and experience the process of effectively promoting a product or a service by assessing it through the needs of the company’s target markets. This process will require the production of detailed feasibility studies and environmental scans where you will conduct surveys and interviews so as to gather data about consumer behavior and demand.

Is there a board examination for BSBA in Marketing Management?
There is no board examination for BSBA in Marketing Management. 

Civic-minded graduates can choose to take the competency examination known as the Civil Service Examination. Those who will pass the civil service examinations are conferred a civil service eligibility, a basic requirement in admissibility for government service.

  • Entry Level jobsJobs requiring minimal level of experience:
    • Marketing Assistant – works with a team led by the marketing manager to reach the promotional goals of the company.
    • Sales Account Executive – collects and manages different client accounts for companies and sets monthly and annual sales target quotas.
    • Junior Market Researcher – assesses demographics and proceeds to do feasibility studies of different segments.
    • Digital Marketing Intern – maintains social media accounts for companies to have an online presence and market their goods and services to net-savvy
    • Market Analyst – foresees trends in supply and demand forces within market segments and analyzes the impacts of each.
    • Promotional Events Planner – plans marketing campaigns that require promotional events and product launches.
    • Brand Assistant – works with a team led by the Brand Manager to assist in the strategic positioning and promotion of a brand to capture the attention of targeted customers.
    • Trade Marketing Assistant – works with a team led by the Trade Manager to assist in increasing product or service demand at the distributor, retailer and wholesaler level rather than the consumer level.
    • Events and Exhibit Associate – prepares a company’s promotional materials for events and exhibits while assisting in formulating procedures, policies and guidelines which motivate exhibitors and improve exhibit/event set-up.
  • Advanced Positions
  • Require prior job experience of a several years:
    • Marketing Communications Manager (MarComm) – proofreads the company’s marketing communications materials while ensuring that only those with outstanding quality are produced for dissemination.
    • Project Manager (Marketing) – oversees and directs marketing projects in varying stages beginning to completion by holding teams down to a workflow.
    • Marketing Consultant – works with consulting firms to create marketing plans and forecasts for client companies.
    • E-Marketing and Sales / Promotions Manager – creates events and builds tie-ups with other organizations to increase sales, looks for distribution channels.
    • Digital Marketing Manager – drives effective social media initiatives and high conversion email marketing campaigns with a team of social media interns.
    • Marketing Manager – executes marketing plans and programs of communications to reach revenue targets while keeping an eye on the shifting needs of the markets his/her company is concerned with.
    • Business Development Manager – develops the core strengths of the business after assessing the needs of the market outside.
    • Market Research Director – oversees a team or department of market researchers in gathering relevant data of market demographics.
    • Sales and Marketing Manager – drives the sales workforce into reaching targets delineated by demographic studies.
  • Jobs not related to BSBA in Marketing Management that graduates can apply to
    • Call center agent – answers phone calls and inquiries of clients and provides customer support, usually to people from other countries
    • Administrative Staff – personnel responsible for the organization and management of office duties and tasks; positions that include office secretary, personal assistant and office clerk
    • Freelancer working online – doing online jobs for clients abroad, such as data entry, article writing, SEO, customer support, administrative support etc., which mainly depends on your skills
  • Career Opportunities Abroad
  • BSBA in Marketing Management graduates from the Philippines are sought after in Asian countries with strong economies such as Malaysia and Singapore.
  • Salary Levels
  • In the Philippines, BSBA in Marketing Management graduates who are hired in entry level jobs are paid between 12,000php to 18,000php per month or higher depending on the company. More advanced positions may fetch a salary of 25,000php to 40,000php for intermediate level management and between uo to 100,000php for seasoned and experienced managers. 

    Abroad: 
    Working abroad, BSBA in Marketing Management graduates can earn twice to thrice as much depending on the job description and place of work.
